Villa Gateira is in an elevated position with views across the landscape to the ocean beyond. It is only 4km from the white sandy beaches of Caminha, a traditional Portuguese town steeped in history. Years ago, many battles were fought here between the Spanish and the Portuguese however now there are regular ferry trips connecting the Minho riverbanks. Standing on a tiny island in the middle of the estuary are the ruins of the fort of Ínsua, built to defend the entrance to the river in the fifteenth century.
The quirky property has three bedrooms, and the living room has windows taking full advantage of the spectacular views. Simply furnished with a modern kitchen, this is a great choice for a small family or group of friends who want to explore this fascinating area. There are plenty of beautiful walks and hikes nearby and the lovely Praia de Ancora beach is only about a ten-minute drive. There is great surf here and an abundance of fish restaurants serving the catch of the day.
The approach to the villa is particularly steep so we recommend an automatic vehicle.
Gateira is very close to Augusta making these a good choice for larger groups wanting to holiday near each other.
